HOW TO BURN CALIFORNIA NATIVE INDIAN WHITE SAGE?
Here are all the steps and tips for a successful smoke ceremony.
Step 1 : Get some Native American white sage from California and an abalone shell-type receptacle, bowl, or other container that holds up well to heat. Sit on a non-flammable surface. Abalone shell is widely used because its shape promotes good heat resistance and natural ventilation. She was traditionally associated with a strong symbolism of the goddess of the Pacific Ocean.
2nd step : Light your sage, preferably with a match. Let your leaves burn for a few seconds and blow out the flame. Be careful, white leaf burnt sage blows away quite easily. If you're using a (denser) fumigation stick, let it burn a bit longer before blowing it. Warning: if you use a metal receptacle, be careful not to burn yourself if you need to move it.
Step 3: The use of white sage must be done in a well ventilated place. Indoors, it is advisable to open one or more windows to create a draft. This allows the evacuation of excess smoke and the famous positive ions or "evil spirits" with it. All you have to do is walk around each of the rooms and guide the smoke to every corner in your path. After a few minutes, you should feel the energy shifts.
Step 4 : Wait for the stick to burn out completely. Native American belief is that white sage incense continues to burn until cleansing is complete.
Step 5: If you really want to put your stick out while it's burning, just smother it with sand, crush it in its ashes, or run the end directly under water.
Certain sacred objects are used for the ceremony. The eagle feather, for example, is used to disperse the smoke to the desired location and promotes the effect of sage. Any accessory is itself purified before use.
